Signage and Wayfinding

Rationale for Project

The main objective of the project is to learn about the issues that come along with developing a simple way finding plan. Through signage regarding gateways, orientation, storytelling, directional, and locational information we were to create a cohesive system that was appropriate for the location. When creating my project I wanted my signage system to have an organic and Eco friendly feel. The chosen name for the trail is the Kent Bike and Hike.

Once it was decided that I was going to call my trail the Kent Hike and Bike I decided that I wanted it to have an organic and Eco friendly feel. For color concept I wanted it to reflect colors that are traditionally associated with recycling and public parks which is also how I chose materials. Regarding fonts I decided to take a modern approach that has good readability. When it came to the shapes and forms of the signage itself I wanted it to be unique and stand out so the traditional engraved wood with centered text was avoided. Choosing unique and organic shapes also helped challenge myself as a designer and caused myself to think more creatively about the incorporation of curves.
